Siembra translated from Spanish means sowing, as in sowing seeds. This is my vision for our practice, literally and figuratively. We are transforming spaces with plants, art, and beyond; while sowing seeds of optimism, resilience, and beauty with our work to benefit those communities who need it most.

Studio Siembra aims to be a space for diverse designers, collaborators, and stakeholders to embrace and express their whole identities. Diversity, equity, and inclusion is more than just a phrase; it’s a necessary guiding principle in the way we practice, and the type of work we do.

Studio Siembra is founded on the belief and passion that everyone should have access to and be able to enjoy outdoor environments which succeed in both form and function. We believe landscape architects are ideally positioned to create real change in our communities, while protecting and advocating for public health, safety, and welfare for all.

Studio Siembra is led and managed by Magdalena Aravena, PLA, ASLA, and is supported by a diverse network of established professional advisors and collaborators throughout the country. As a start-up design practice of one (for now), we have the freedom and commitment to take on projects of various scales and media. Let’s work together to sow seeds of optimism, resilience, and beauty with everything we touch. Vamos a sembrar!

As a first generation immigrant from Chile, I am proud to call myself the Founder and Principal of Studio Siembra. I have dedicated the last nine years of my career to learn from established professionals across the country in different sectors of the industry - residential, public, private, and commercial - and am thrilled to take all of that to sow seeds with my own practice.
